Men's ELO Rankings 13/04/2015

Apologies for the delay in putting this up, I've been busy with other projects and unexpected events this weekend. This week saw 2 tournaments held, in Houston and in Casablanca.

This week's Big Gainer of the week is Jack Sock. Being unseeded at a tournament and then winning is is a sure fire way of making huge gains in rankings, and that's just what happened here. Jack's victory at Houston gained him 48 ELO points, giving him a new ranking of #15, 34 places higher than last week.

Our Upset player of the Week is last week's Big Gainer John Isner. In what was probably 1 tournament too far, he lost in his 1st match, and lost 13 ELO points in the pricess. He is now ranked #19 on my rankings, 4 places lower than last week.

Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Martin Klizan, Sam Querrey, Damir Dzumhur, Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Lamine Ouahab.

Now, the the full rankings. (± is for ranking, not rating. Some players who are new to the rankings will have artificially high ± scores as I add them to the bottom before sorting them in to their new position)

  1. I suggest some ideas to improve your rating (used in chess) :

    (a) make different rating for clay and rapid surfaces as it is not the same game (think about Nadal in clay). In chess a player have 3 different ratings, for Blitz Games (< 10 min), Rapid Games (<30 min) and long Games (>1h00)

    (b) a new player should be notices NR (Not Rated) before he has played at least 10 games to have a minimum statistical information about his level (in chess for instance it is 9 games)

    (c) the number of games played is a very important information to know. It is not the same to have 1600 Elo with 10 games, than with 20 games.
