With Wimbledon on next week, there was 1 last tournament on for the players on the WTA Tour to prepare, located in Eastbourne.

The Big Gainer of the week this week is Dominika Cibulkova. She won the tournament, with wins over Agnieszka Radwanska and Karolina Pliskova on her way to the title. This title gave Dominika 44 ELO ratting points, which sees her gain 7 places in my ranking to #7.

This week's Upset player of the week award goes to Carla Suarez Navarro. She was the 8th seed at Eastbourne, and like all the seeds, she got a bye to the 2nd round, but she lost her 1st match. This loss cost Carla 15 ELO rating points, and she falls 2 places in my ranking to #11.

Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Kateryna Bondarenko, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Misaki Doi.

Now, the full rankings.

  1. Being a chessplayer with years of familiarity with the Elo rating system, I'm always aghast at the idiocy of the WTA and ATP ranking systems, which reflect the amount of prize money won rather than the quality of victories according to strength of opposition. Let me suggest one improvement in your Elo tennis ranking lists: in addition to the number of places a player moves up and down, also show the number of Elo points gained or lost.

    1. Thanks for the comment, I'll add this to the tables for the next update (after Wimbledon).
