2018 Tennis ELO Awards - Winners

The voting is over, and it's time to announce the winners! Find out who won this year's Tennis ELO awards after the jump. Like last year, the polls took place on Twitter, and if you haven't done so already, follow @tennis_elo to be the 1st to hear of new blog posts and more.

Player of the Year - Men's
Nominees:
  • Nikoloz Basilashvili - For his performance at Hamburg and at Beijing.
  • Marco Cecchinato - For his performance at Budapest, the French Open and Umag.
  • Borna Coric - For his performance at Indian Wells, Halle and Shanghai.
  • Daniil Medvedev - For his performance at Sydney and at Winston-Salem.
Borna Coric is this year's Player of the Year, with 75% of the vote, gaining 160 ELO rating points this year. Congratulations! Last year's winner, Mischa Zverev, didn't have such a good 2018, losing ELO rating points and falling below average. Let's see if Borna can avoid that fate next year.

Player of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Kiki Bertens - For her performance at Charleston, Madrid and Cincinnati.
  • Angelique Kerber - For her performance at Sydney and at Wimbledon.
  • Naomi Osaka - For her performance at Indian Wells and at the US Open.
  • Aryna Sabalenka - For her performance at Eastbourne, New Haven and Wuhan.
Earning 60% of the vote, Naomi Osaka is the Women's Player of the Year, winning a Grand Slam title and gaining 152 ELO rating points from last year. Congratulations! Last year's winner, Carolie Garcia, held steady, only losing 9 ELO rating points this season. Can Naomi do even better next season?

Disappointment of the Year - Men's

Nominees:
  • Roger Federer
  • Philipp Kohlschreiber
  • Milos Raonic
  • Stan Wawrinka
Milos Raonic is this year's "winner" of the Disappointment of the Year award, after losing 38 ELO rating points. But last year's "winner" was Novak Djokovic, who's made an impressive comeback and is very close to the ELO #1 spot. Can Milos do what Novak did next year?

Disappointment of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Julia Goerges
  • Garbine Muguruza
  • Karolina Pliskova
  • Venus Williams
And finally, in the most one sided poll I've ever ran, Garbine Muguruza "won" the Disappointment of the Year award, after losing 56 ELO rating points. But last year's "winner", Angelique Kerber, had a great 2018, and was nominated for this year's Player of the Year award. Let's see if Garbine can get a better season next year.
