2023 Tennis ELO Awards - Winners

The voting is over, and it's time to announce the winners! Find out who won this year's Tennis ELO awards after the jump. 


Like last year, the polls took place on Twitter, and if you haven't done so already, follow @tennis_elo to be the 1st to hear of new blog posts and more.


Player of the Year - Men's

Nominees:
  • Tomas Martin Etcheverry - For his performance at Santiago and the French Open.
  • Christopher Eubanks - For his performance at Miami, Santa Ponsa and Wimbledon.
  • Ben Shelton - For his performance at the US Open and Tokyo.
  • Jannik Sinner - For his performance at Beijing and the ATP Finals
With 75% of the vote, this year's Player of the Year award goes to Jannik Sinner. He started the year ranked #11, but with 134 more ELO this year than last, he is now ranked #4 in the world. Last year's winner, Carlos Alcaraz contunued climbing and is now the ELO #2. Can Jannik do better next year?


Player of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Coco Gauff - For her performance at Cincinnati and the US Open.
  • Karolina Muchova - For her performance at the French Open.
  • Anastasia Potapova - For her performance at Linz and Stuttgart.
  • Iga Swiatek - For her performance at Doha and the WTA Finals.
It's the 4th year in a row that Iga Swiatek has been nominated, and it's the 3rd time she has won this award, this time with 42% of the vote. She earned 57 ELO rating points over the course of the year, maitaining her place at the very top of my rankings. Can Iga keep up with the extremely high expectations next season?


Disappointment of the Year - Men's

Nominees:
  • Borna Coric
  • Marc-Andrea Husler
  • Casper Ruud
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas
This year's Disappointment of the Year award goes to Casper Ruud, with 69% of the vote. He lost 93 ELO rating points and fell from #10 to #18 this year. Last year's "winner" of this award, Aslan Karatsev, had a good 2023 and gained 92 ELO this year. Can Casper make a comeback next year?


Disappointment of the Year - Women's

Nominees:
  • Amanda Anisimova
  • Victoria Azarenka
  • Kaia Kanepi
  • Zhang Shuai
Amanda Anisimova is the winner of this year's Disappointment of the Year award, with 56% of the vote. She lost 74 ELO rating points in the few months she was playing this season, and fell 14 places in my rankings. Last year's "winner", Garbine Muguruza, didn't have a good 2023, losing another 38 ELO and hasn't played since February. Can Amanda return to good form next year?
