Right now, it's late on Middle Sunday, so it's time for me to update the predictions I made last week, with some new predictions for the rest of the tournament.

  • Of the 4 favourites for the title before the tournament, only Serena Williams is still in. Simona Halep lost to Hsieh Su-wei in round 3, Petra Kvitova lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the 1st round and Caroline Wozniacki lost in round 2 to Ekaterina Makarova.
  • Whilst Andrea Petkovic had the easiest overall draw, this didn't help her to victory, as she lost to Yanina Wickmayer in the 2nd round. Varvara Lepchenko had the toughest draw and lost her opening matches to Caroline Wozniacki.
  • Despite receiving the toughest 1st round draw, Aliaksandra Sasnovich upset Petra Kvitova in the 1st round, and is still in the tournament. Viktorija Golubic however, had the easiest 1st round draw but lost her match to Ons Jabeur.
But what about the future? Let's take a look at what the rest of the tournament looks like
  • Serena Williams is now the favourite, and has a 34.1% chance of winning the title, Angelique Kerber is 2nd at 17.34%, Karolina Pliskova is 3rd at 13.61%, and 4th is Daria Kasatkina with 9.38%.
  • Dominika Cibulkova, Angelique Kerber and Ekaterina Makarova have the easiest draws to the title relative to their ranking, as they're the 7th, 2nd and 8th most likely players to win, but are the 8th, 3rd and 9th highest ranked players remaining.
  • Kiki Bertens has the toughest draw relative to her ranking, as she is the 9th most likely winner, but is the 7th highest ranked player in the tournament.
  • As for the next match, Kiki Bertens also has the toughest round 4 match, as she is the 12th most likely player to win their next match, but is the 7th highest ranked player.
  • 9 players are tied as to the easiest 4th round match, Everyone except Ostapenko, Bencic, Pliskova, Bertens, Vekic, Williams and Rodina is one position more likely to win than their ranking would suggest.
