Women's ELO Rankings 07/11/2016

The final event of the WTA tour took place this season, with 12 highly rated players playing in the WTA Elite Trophy, at Zhuhai.

The final Big Gainer of the week award goes to the tournament winner, Petra Kvitova. She won every match she played, defeating Elina Svitolina in the final This performance gave Petra 25 ELO rating points, and she gains 1 place in my rankings to #4.

The final Upset player of the week is Timea Babos. Even though she was a last minute entry to the tournament, she lost both of her matches to closely rated competition. These losses cost Timea 19 ELO rating points, and she fell 7 places in my rankings to #39.

Aside from the winner and the finalist, the other players to gain ELO this week were Johanna Konta, Barbora Strycova, Elena Vesnina, Caroline Garcia and Zhang Shuai.

Curious why Suarez Navarro, who declined to play after the draw was already completed and withdrew at the last minute presumably because she realized she could not win, was not rated for her two "losses" in this event. For Wozniacki a "loss" is apparently a loss even tho not a single tennis ball was hit. Not so for Suarez Navarro?

    1. Hi, the difference in the 2 cases is that Suarez Navarro withdrew before hitting a ball at the tournament (and a replacement was found to play her matches).
