Women's ELO Rankings 05/10/2015

As the WTA Finals approach later this year, the Asian swing of the WTA tour is in full force, with tournaments in Wuhan and Tashkent held this week.

The Big Gainer of the week award this week goes to Venus Williams. She won the tournament in Wuhan as an unseeded player, with wins over Agnieszka Radwanska, and then successfully taking advantage of other upsets to win the title. Her wins gave Venus 54 ELO rating points, which puts her at #6 in my rankings, 9 places higher than last week.

This week's Upset player of the week is Maria Sharapova. She isn't ranked right now as she hasn't played enough matches since I started collecting matches played data after the French Open (she only needs 1 more to be ranked), but she is still one of the highest rated players in my database. However, her loss to Barbora Strycova in Wuhan cost her 15 ELO rating points. Her current rating would put her in #3 on my rankings.

Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Garbine Muguruza, Roberta Vinci, Johanna Konta, Nao Hibino and Donna Vekic.

Now, the the full rankings. New players in my rankings are marked with "NEW" in the ± column.
