Women's ELO Rankings 19/10/2015

With the WTA Finals only 2 weeks away, this week saw a great opportunity for some of the plsyers on the verge of qualifying to secure their place there, but with 3 tournaments on this week in Tianjin, Linz and Hong Kong, this week was also a good chance for lower ranked players to gain some much needed points.

The Big Gainer of the week award this week goes to Jelena Jankovic. Playing in Hong Kong as the 4th seed, she won the title with wins over 3rd seed Venus Williams and the top seed (after a withdrawal) Angelique Kerber in the final. While Angelique did well enough to become the ELO #2 (by 1 point) here, Jelena's victory here gave her 43 ELO rating points, which puts her at a new ranking of #10, 5 places higher than last week.

This week's Upset player of the week is Lucie Safarova. She chose to play in Linz as the top seed there, but lost in the 1st round to Andreea Mitu. Her early loss caused Lucie to lose 15 ELO rating points, which caused her to fall 2 places in my rankings to a new ranking of #13.

Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Danka Kovinic, Kirsten Flipkens, Bojana Jovanovski and Anna-Lena Friedsam.
