2015 Australian Open Predictions - Final

Last round I got all 4 of the semi-finals right, though I'm guessing so did a lot of others who are predicting winners. It's now time for the most important match of them all, THE FINAL!

Apologies for the delay, got caught up with other stuffs.

For the Women's Final, I'm taking Maria Sharapova over Serena Williams, and for the Men's Final, I'm going against my home country and taking Novak Djokovic over Andy Murray.

2015 Australian Open Predictions - Semi Finals

How did I do last round?

Men's - 4/4
Women's - 2/4

I'm happy with this, most predictors would have got 2 or 3 of the Men's matches right, so maybe I was lucky. My women's performance was par for the course. Unfortunately for me, par wasn't good enough as 24/31 participants remaining in the Women's Drop Out contest were eliminated. To win one of these, you need to perform above expectation, and sometimes you get lucky, and other times the others get lucky. I'm now out of all of that site's competitions. Maybe next time I'll win.

Now, for the semi-final predictions. Stan Wawrinka as the 2nd best player still in got the tough draw, Andy Murray must be happy about that. On the other side, the Women's matches are more balanced.

2015 Australian Open Predictions - Quarter Finals

How did I do last round?

Men's - 7/8
Women's - 6/8

This is where a more intelligent rating system may do better. David Ferrer, like most Spanish tennis players, is more of a clay court specialist, and could possibly have been predicted to lose to Kei Nishikori. The same could also be said of my system possibly overrating Madison Brengle, though other systems would have gone for Andrea Petkovic in round 1 and CoCo Vandeweghe in round 3, which my rating system got right.

I just scraped through the Women's Drop Out Contest, the only one I'm still in, going through as my gut feeling scoreline picks did well enough to get through. Like I said last round, this contest isn't going to be easy any more and I'm going to have to beat the average to get through, not just match it.

Now, for my Quarter final predictions.

Men's - Rafael Nadal is my highest ranked loser, and Tomas Berdych is my lowest ranked winner.
