Now, for the Big Gainer of the Week. This could easily have gone to Victor Troicki had my ranking system assumed he was a below average player, which could have happened had it been set up for longer, his tournament victory gave him a new rating of 1550 as he enters the rankings this week. But the winner of the Big Gainer award is Jiri Vesely, who performed excellently to win the other tournament taking place this week to climb 58 places to #18! Watch out for the 1st round of the Australian Open, where these 2 are playing each other, and I would probably expect the winner to beat whoever they play in round 2.
Where there are winners, there are also losers, and this week, the Upset player of the Week goes to Roberto Bautista Agut. He wins it this week as he was the highest ranked player to lose 11 ELO points, though he wasn't the only one to do so. He lost to Adrian Mannarino (who ended up making the final), though due to most of the top players taking this week off, and some less than great performances from those just below him, Roberto lost only lost 1 place in the rankings and is now #16.
Other strong performers relative to their rankings this week were Mikhail Kukushkin, Adrian Mannarino, Gilles Muller, Bernard Tomic, Lucas Pouille and Donald Young.
