The Big Gainer of the week this week wasn't the winner of the tournament, but one of the semi finalists, Garbine Muguruza. Despite failing to win the tournament, she had the joint best record here, winning her 3 group matches and then losing in the semi final to the eventual winner. Her performance here gave her 18 ELO rating points, but because of other events, she fell 1 ranking place this week to a new ranking of #6.
The Upset player of the week this week is Angelique Kerber. Every player won at least 1 match at the tournament, but Angelique was one of those who lost 2 matches to lower rated opposition and failed to qualify for the semi finals. Her performance here cost her 15 ELO rating points, and caused her to fall 2 places in my rankings to #4.
Maria Sharapova has finally played enough matches since I started tracking this data to be ranked, and she enters my rankings at #2. The winner of the WTA Finals Agnieszka Radwanska was the only player other than Muguruza and Sharapova to gain ELO this week. Radwanska gained 7 points and Sharapova gained 15.
