Men's ELO Rankings 11/01/2016

The 2016 tennis season has started, and I'm writing blog posts again. We welcome back the men's tennis season with tournaments in Brisbane, Chennai and Doha.

The Big Gainer of the week for the 1st week of this season goes to Doha semifinalist Illya Marchenko. This award was closely fought between Milos Raonic, who won in Brisbane and Borna Coric, who made the final in Chennai, but Illya earned it with a win over the upset player of the week (see below) among others before losing to Rafael Nadal in the semi finals. He gained 36 ELO rating points for his run and joins my rankings at #53.

The Upset player of the week in the 1st week is David Ferrer. He was the 4th seed at Doha, and lost to the player who ended up being the big gainer of the week (see above), a loss that cost him 16 ELO rating points. He falls to #9 in my rankings, 2 places lower than at the end of last season.

Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Aljaz Bedene, Andrey Kuznetsov, Lucas Pouille and Andrey Rublev.

Now, the full rankings.
