This week's Player of the week is Liudmila Samsonova. She was unseeded at Tokyo, and won the title there, with wins over Elena Rybakina and Garbine Muguruza among others. These wins gave Liudmila 43 ELO rating points, moving her up 9 places in my rankings to #25.
This week's Upset player of the week is Paula Badosa. Also at Tokyo, she was the top seed and had a bye to round 2, where she lost her opening match. This loss cost Paula 14 ELO rating points, and she falls 3 places in my rankings to #19.
Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Tatjana Maria, Claire Liu and Zheng Qinwen.
