This week's Player of the week award goes to Liudmila Samsonova. She qualified for, and won the tournament in Berlin, defeating Victoria Azarenka and Belinda Bencic in the final. This title led to Liudmila earning 75 ELO rating points, moving her up 45 places in my rankings to #66.
This week's Upset player of the week award goes to Elise Mertens. The top seed at Birmingham lost in round 1 to Ajla Tomljanovic. This loss cost Elise 16 ELO rating points, and she falls 2 places in my rankings to #9.
Other strong performers relative to their rankings are Alize Cornet, Coco Vandeweghe, Heather Watson and Tereza Martincova.
